Holy Snowballs, Batman!

YIKES!  Lately, we’ve been on quite a rollercoaster when it comes to weather.  Maybe it’s my fault by buying and displaying this cute little sign in my sewing room???

DSCN0499

We’ve had some really cold temps and some sleet and lots of snow.  And tonight we are to get some more ice.  ACK!  I am scared of driving on icy roads… so keep your fingers and toes crossed that it passes us by and we get none!  We’ve now used all three built-in snow days plus one more…sigh… so we will be going to school on President’s Day to make it up…really big longggg sigh.

I did, however, finish my “Holy Snowballs” quilt.  YAY!

DSCN0522

Isn’t it just the funnest quilt, ever??

DSCN0525

And so smart of the quilt shop that put the quilt and kit together.

DSCN0524

It allowed them to use up the leftover bolts of all the collections that did not sell.

DSCN0529

Very clever indeed!!

We did lose electricity for one of our snow days off…so was not able to spend it sewing.  But it did come back on and I am knee deep in a new Moda Bake Shop project…  it’s a fun one, too!

Stay tuned… grinning…!

Our First Snow Day!

I bought this cute sign from Connecting Threads and

DSCN0499

just put it on my sewing room window last night. It was wonderfully prophetic!!  We woke up to ice-covered roads and walks, so

NO SCHOOL!!  YESSSSSS!

I should be upstairs sewing this very moment… but am here with my second cup of coffee watching the latest Masterpiece Theater series “Downton Abbey”

downton

I love period pieces… and could sit here all day watching it.  But am only allowing myself 2 hours of

lollygagging and SAVORING!!

Then I’ll be off to get this top all pinned and ready to quilt!  My bee mate Suzanne gave me this kit for Christmas and it is soooooo me!

Bright and fun!

The name of the pattern is “Holy Snowballs” and is the perfect project for my first snow day off!!  :-)

What are you up to today??

I’m Still Alive!!

OK,OK… it’s been a while since I posted… been enjoying having my son Anthony home from VA Tech.  He’ll be going back to school in the next few days. :-(

DSCN0065

We’ve been playing a new family word game at night after dinner.  Have you played it?

bananagrams

It’s fun and much faster than Scrabble.  So, I guess you could say I am SAVORing my time with my son!  :-)

DSCN0446

Three of us in my office at work received iPads for Christmas.  I made myself a bag for mine immediately but my friends did not have a case for theirs… Sooooo, I made them each a new iPad sleeve!

DSCN0486

I selected green fabrics of different values and texture and cut them into strips of various widths.  I sewed them together to make two sides and a flap to close it.

DSCN0476

I layered the two pieces with some batting and quilted them with an allover meander.  I cut off the ends of both pieces and rounded the edges, and sewed them right sides together then turned and top-stitched it.

DSCN0477

I added Velcro to the bag body and flap and I cut two pieces of Minkee for the lining.

DSCN0480

Sew up the bag and lining side seams and make sure you leave an opening in one side of the lining to turn it through.

DSCN0481

Sew up that opening in the lining, push the lining down inside the bag and topstitch around the top edge of the sleeve.

DSCN0483

VOILA! TAAAA DAAAA!! All done!!  What are you all sewin’ on out there??  Something fun??

MUF’s Girls Word Up!

word up

Kelly over at Charming Chatter,

the leader of the new group

MUF girls

has asked us to come up with a word… in Kelly’s own words- “We're choosing a word the identifies what we'd like to see more of in our lives in 2011 - what we want to cultivate in our lives!  It's a word to reflect on throughout the year - and to help us "live our best life" as Oprah would say!”

I’ve been thinking of special words all week… trying to decide which word best defines what I hope to do allot of this year.  Of all the words floating in my mind- one kept coming up over and over…

SAVOR.

I want to savor my favorite things-

take time to relax and enjoy the special moments…

moments spent with my wonderful husband

Al and yogi

moments spent with my two brilliant sons

Snowman Maniac

Yup, that’s me!  I decorate with only Santa’s , gingerbread folk, and angels for Christmas so I put out all my snowmen in January.

DSCN1378

By the time Christmas is over, I’m tired of red and green and am ready for some cool blues and purples.

Do you do this, too?

snowlafy

How does your sewing room look when you are in the middle of a project..or two…or three…

DSCN0447

I’ve got little piles of fabric and supplies all over my sewing table.

DSCN0451

Yogi isn’t bothered by my mess!

DSCN0449

Well, I had a few small snowman projects in the works for the last week after Christmas, but had to keep stopping due to various holiday happenings…

DSCN0452

but I finished binding them all and sewing on the labels on New Year’s Eve while watching TV with hubby until the wee hours of the new year!

DSCN0456

Here’s the mini tabletop snowman

DSCN0457

I had my heart set on using the frosty periwinkle blue with snowflakes for the background and the knit looking print for the hat and muffler…but they were pretty close in value… so I did the edge-stitching in red to try to create a line of demarcation.

DSCN0458

So, I tried to lighten the background a bit by quilting tight swirls with white thread… so fun to do.

DSCN0467

Here’s a little Sandy Gervais quilt made from a charm pack.  I made the same quilt last winter but it lives in my cubby at work now, so I remade it to use above my mantle.

DSCN0470

He just has such a winning personality, don’t you think?

DSCN0471

I love the addition of pink and aqua in this collection! Plus, I added a carrot nose! He’s gotta breathe!

DSCN0461

Finally, I needed a new small greeter quilt for my front door.  This happy guy is perfect to stand out on my dark red front door!

DSCN0466

The print I used for the border is an oldie but a goodie!!

DSCN0465

I love the little cardinal birdie at the bottom and the swirly twirly blue background fabric!  I admit, I’m a polka dot freak, too!

So, have you done any sewing in 2011? I’ve had “snow” much fun!!
